Full - On Weekend…

It’s Tuesday and it’s fine glorious as always!

Today I’m feeling

Oh my word, what a full-on birthday weekend it turned out to be!!

balloons

The first surprise happened on Saturday when my youngest son called to say that he was couriering some flowers up to me (he is the one who owns the wholesale flower company) and that my honey needed to be down at the jetty with the car to meet the 12:30 ferry…

Of course, little did I know that the entire family (including their dog Bear) would be the couriers, LOLOL… So the car pulls into the driveway and 3 pairs of little feet come running in and the next thing I know I am being hugged and kissed and wished ‘Happy Birthday’ by some very excited grandkids and it was bedlam but oh what beautiful bedlam!!

bdayparty

Turned out that they were staying the weekend and I was just over the moon to hear that!! Next thing I know, people started arriving with gifts and wine and bbq food and salads and you name it and that was the beginning of what ended up as a 2 day partay, lolol… We had champagne bbqs and champagne breakfasts and MORE champagne bbqs and different people kept coming and going all weekend and my house was ‘trashed’ but I didn’t care cos it was filled with such wonderful company!!

It took me all day yesterday to recover, I was exhausted but I have lots of wonderful memories that will last me a lifetime and I felt so special and so loved the whole time… All I can say is ‘WOW’ and thank you to everyone who made this birthday so precious and such a delightful time!!

Anyway, until the next time I have some gossip to share…

Wine + Stairs =

It’s Wednesday and it’s fine windy & dusty!

Today I’m feeling

yeppers, a fall…

stretcher

2 weeks ago, I tripped going UP some stairs and landed on my left knee. The bruising has spread down my entire leg and into my foot, much worse than it would be ordinarily because I am on warfarin (a blood thinner). There is a large hematoma just under my kneecap but because I take the warfarin the dr couldn’t drain it (the treatment is to aspirate it with a needle, yuck!) so it will likely take months to heal.

yikes syringe-32x32

Oh! Did I mention that I had had a wine or 3??? Hmmmm… enough said…

On Friday we head off on our ‘pampering’ weekend to Stradbroke Island, staying at the Pandanus Palms resort in an ocean-view apartment, ooh la la, lol… Debi & I are taking champers, chocolates, strawbs, manicure stuff and foot spa stuff and cucumber for our eyes and mudpacks for our faces and… you get the picture. The guys are going to be going fishing and doing ‘guy’ stuff while the above is going on, they might be allowed to join us for a few meals somewhere along the way if they behave!

What Hell Might Look Like…

It’s Thursday and it’s fine must be summer!

Today I’m feeling

In case you didn’t hear, the east coast of Aussie was hit by a severe dust storm yesterday, compounded in some areas by deliberately-lit bushfires (my island being one of those areas)…

This is what it looked like…

brisbane23sept09

Here is what a Brissie newspaper said…

“BRISBANE is a city besieged, ringed by bushfires and cloaked in a tawny haze of dust, all kicked up by the desert winds that brought chaos to Sydney and NSW early this morning.

An eerie fog of dust blanketed the Queensland capital, reducing visibility to less than 100m and bringing traffic to a standstill in places as motorists turned on their headlights and hoped for the best to nose through the surreal conditions.

While the haze kept temperatures below the forecast 30-plus maximum, it also hampered efforts by firefighters to use aerial water bombers to contain blazes whipped up the winds that had driven the dust into the city.

A strong wind change, forecast later in the afternoon, is likely to compound already dangerous conditions on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts and on Macleay Island * south of Brisbane, where fire crews were monitoring a string of outbreaks.”

* Where I live…

Today we have awoken to blue skies and sunshine and it was like yesterday never happened, except for the layer of red dust over everything. The powers-that-be have relaxed the water restrictions so we can clean up, I know what we’ll be doing this weekend, lol…

Anyway, until the next time I have some gossip to share…

It’s the Oneth…

It’s Tuesday and it’s fine getting warmer!

Today I’m feeling

My life has this way of being either hectic, sad and frustrating, seemingly without a silver lining anywhere in sight, or serene, quiet and happy, with no sign whatsoever of any dark clouds. I reckon it would be quite handy to know where each day is going to fit into the scheme of things so I would know whether to pull the covers up over my head and just not bother or whether I should jump out of bed knowing that only nice things were in store for the day. I could definitely handle that!!

There have been a multitude of little happenings lately at my island home. My honey has been working hard and as a result we have been able to do quite a bit of new landscaping. We are almost ready to start our fences and to build the ‘chook run’. Our little Chenae has made a list of possible names for the chickens and as I write this her most favored are Lucy, Lily and Belle. Hmmm, we shall see, lol…

So it’s the Oneth of September and spring has officially sprung but the seasons are all messed up for some reason and we have been sweating it out in record summer-type temps for about 2 weeks. The plants and trees don’t know what they’re supposed to be doing and things that shouldn’t be flowering yet are blooming away. Very strange…

I finally got my lower denture and I hate it so much that I hardly ever put it in. It feels like I have a mac truck jammed in my mouth and I figure I can handle a good steak without it so why bother??

Next Tuesday my friend Debi & I are going to a fundraising lunch at the Blue Parrot, one of the restaurants on the island. The money raised is going to abused kids so it’s a great cause. I’m looking forward to it as the food at the Parrot is always delish and we always have a fun time when we are together (Deb is the friend with whom I have drinkies every weekend. We sometimes get into mischief but hey, we have lotsa fun, lol)

The 4 of us (my honey & I, Deb & her honey) are going over to Stradbroke Island for the weekend on the 12th Sept so we’re looking forward to that immensely. We’re staying at the newly refurbished hotel and plan on just being decadent… eating, drinking, eating some more and drinking some more, hehehe. We are going to attempt the Point Lookout cliff walk and hope to see the dolphins surfing in on the waves with the surfers as well as some of the big turtles that hang out up there…

Heaven will be Rockin’…

It’s Tuesday and it’s fine getting warmer!

Today I’m feeling

Our friend Justin passed away from esophageal cancer last Thursday. He has left behind a heartbroken wife and 5 beautiful kids. His funeral was today and it was a mixture of tears, laughter and music, just as he planned it…
